Pala Mission Update
|
Missions to the Pala Native American ReservationThe Chinese Baptist Church of Orange County currently sponsors a missionary outreach program to the Pala Tribe of Mission Indians located on the Pala Reservation in Northern San Diego County about seven miles south of the city of Temecula. Our main goal at Pala is to draw the residents of the Reservation closer to the Lord Jesus Christ by fostering relationships built on trust and authentic friendship. It is then our vision to grow disciples of our Lord through the Bible Studies and Sunday Worship Services with the ultimate goal of some day establishing an indigenous church with indigenous leaders on the Reservation. We welcome all volunteers who would like to help us carry out this vision. CBCOC first began visiting the Pala Reservation in 1996 when it conducted large-scale evangelical meetings targeted primarily at the children of the Reservation. Presently, the Pala Ministry has been expanded into four primary areas of focus. A near-by retreat facility was purchased by the Pala Tribe in the summer of 2006 and made available for rent to outside parties. As with the children's meetings that started back in 1996, both Native American and Hispanic children and their families are invited to our current Pala Youth Days, which are held once every-other month on a Saturday and include games, arts and crafts, and Christian activities. Partnering with other churches in the area, we are able grow the Pala Mission reach out to not only the children, but also to entire families, youths, & adults. We conduct Pala Youth Sports Days where athletes from these same churches come down to engage in a friendly game of softball, basketball, or flag football with the Pala youth and at times take them to a nearby horse ranch for a fun day of riding the horses. Our last two areas of ministry are centered around weekly in-home personal Bible Studies with specific Native American families who live on the Reservation (usually held on Mondays and Wednesdays), as well as monthly Sunday Worship Services usually held the last Sunday of each month starting at 4:00 PM with the help of churches from Riverside to preach and lead in the singspiration. Dinner is served after the Worship Hour and a friendly, congenial atmosphere is provided to build relationships and bridge cultures among the Native American, Hispanic, Caucasian, and Asian attendees. It is a wonderful time of fellowship. We hope that you can join us in helping reveal the hope and love that can only from Christ through your service and fellowship with our Native American neighbors. |
