Today, 400 million people will struggle to find decent food, clothing, or shelter. 27 million will have to live as modern-day slaves (if their lives can even be called "living"). Because of poverty and debt, families are stuck in servitude for countless generations, with no hope of ever being free. And because of corrupt local officials and an uninformed public, nothing will be done about it. In India, some of the poverty-stricken women are forced into prostitution to support themselves. Others are trafficked from foreign countries or off the streets and into brothels. It is estimated that 70% of these women are HIV-positive, and 40% of them are girls under the age of 18.
It costs $1000 to free one of these women from the hands of their oppressors. The Christian Youth Fellowship of CBCOC is working with the International Justice Mission to raise money to free 100 of these girls and women. We are going to raise $100,000.

The International Justice Mission is a non-profit Christian organization devoted to fighting oppression and abuse around the world. They send legally trained professionals to free victims of injustice and oppression through emergency relief, structural prevention, and victim care. CYF is raising $100,000 for IJM to legally free 100 women and girls from forced prostitution. |

Also, since this project is maturing and as our members are growing, we are no longer officially part of CYF (as many of us have graduated already). Instead, we have started the Justice League, made up of a smaller group of people, devoted to bringing the Raise 100 to Free 100 to completion until the year 2009.
